Hardware Device Catalog

Keep a company inventory of physical hardware and track which employee each device is assigned to.

Hardware Allocation & Serial Tracking

The inventory is under Devices → Inventory, and the catalog is under Security Settings → Device Catalog.

As part of onboarding, an admin can pick an available device from the inventory and assign it to the new hire — the record then shows who holds which serial number. Assignment is a deliberate action taken in the app, not an automatic imaging or provisioning pipeline. When onboarding lists a laptop or desktop for a new hire, Zonitix also holds a place for it in the inventory until the real machine enrolls; see New-hire computers on the Zonitix Agent page.

If something here is not working as you expect, start with When something goes wrong.

The plain explanation is above. This part is for IT and developers: the exact settings, permission names, API addresses and data fields behind it. Closed: select the heading above to open it. While it is closed, your browser’s find-on-page (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) does not search this part.

Device Inventory

Found under Devices → Inventory. A record gets there in one of three ways: a machine enrolls with the Zonitix Agent (macOS, Linux or Windows), which then reports its hardware, OS build and security posture on a schedule; a Mac enrolls in the built-in Apple MDM and is copied into the inventory; or an administrator creates the record with POST /devices. The inventory does not sync with a third-party MDM. Macs enrolled in the built-in Apple MDM are refreshed in the background every 15 minutes, and at most once a minute when the inventory is loaded.

Fields an admin can write

name · type · serialNumber · status · manufacturer · userId · assetTag · department · location · costCenter

Your own fields

Customer-defined device fields: read with GET /devices/custom-fields (view_devices), replace the set with POST /devices/custom-fields (manage_devices, audited)

Access

Read: view_devices · Create / assign: manage_devices · Permanent delete: manage_devices + manage_device_destructive + re-authentication + written reason

Listing

GET /devices returns 200 records by default (limit 1–1000, offset to page). Pending and retired devices are left out unless asked for with pending=1 or retired=1

All paths are under /api/v1/user-management. POST /devices accepts only the writable fields above, ignores anything else in the body, answers 201 with the new record and is audited. Everything the agent reports, the device lifecycle and remote commands are on the Zonitix Agent page.

Device Catalog (Reference Models)

Found under Security Settings → Device Catalog; the page needs manage_security. It is a table of the reference hardware models and costs that came with Zonitix, with the columns Manufacturer, Model name, Type and Est. cost. Persona hardware budgets and spend estimates are calculated from this list. No hardware catalog feed is connected, so nothing refreshes the figures, and models cannot be added or edited from the page yet. Treat the costs as a guide and check them against what you actually pay.

Read the list

GET /user-management/device-catalog/models — view_users, manage_users or manage_security. Ordered by brand, then model name

Manual sync

POST /user-management/device-catalog/sync — manage_security. With no feed connected it changes nothing and answers 409 with reason “no_feed”; the attempt is audited
