Org Chart
This page describes the chart, the dated snapshots it keeps and how the structure is changed from it. This page is part of the reference HR Records, Time Off & Reviews.
What It Does
- Finding your way around. Type a name to jump to a person, switch the layout between top-down and left-to-right, and click a manager to fold or unfold their team.
- Export. Every viewer can export a picture of the chart. The CSV export carries contact details, so it is offered only to people who may see or manage the user list.
- Snapshots. A snapshot is a dated copy of everyone, their reporting lines and departments. A person who manages the org chart can take one and delete it later. Zonitix also takes one by itself at midnight on the first day of January, April, July and October. Every viewer can open a snapshot from the history list.
- Comparing two snapshots. The comparison lists who joined, who left and who moved. A person counts as moved when their manager, department or job title differs between the two.
- Changing the structure. Dragging a card onto a manager changes that person’s reporting line once you confirm it. It needs two rights, managing the org chart and managing users. A person can also be given up to 10 dotted-line managers, which do not change the primary structure. Nothing can be changed while you are viewing a snapshot.
Org Chart
AnalyticsOrg Chart draws the company from the Manager field on each person’s file. It is on every plan and appears for anyone who has been given access to the org chart. An administrator uses it to check reporting lines, keep a dated record of the structure, and compare two dates.

Changing The Structure From The Chart
- Reporting line. Dragging a card onto a manager, or using the change-manager action on a card, opens “Change reporting line” to confirm the move. It needs two rights, managing the org chart and managing users, because it changes the person’s manager on their user record. Without both, cards cannot be dragged.
- Dotted-line managers. A person who manages the org chart can give a person up to 10 secondary managers in “Dotted-line managers”; an eleventh is refused. These are secondary reporting lines and do not change the primary structure.
- Not while viewing a snapshot. A snapshot is read-only: nothing can be dragged or edited until you go back to the live chart.
The permission behind each of these rights is named under Routes, Permission Checks And Limits at the end of this page.
If something here is not working as you expect, start with When something goes wrong.
The plain explanation is above. This part is for IT and developers: the exact settings, permission names, API addresses and data fields behind it. Closed: select the heading above to open it. While it is closed, your browser’s find-on-page (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) does not search this part.

Org Chart
- Seeing the chart, the snapshot history and a comparison:
view_org_chart. - The CSV export, and email addresses in a comparison:
view_usersormanage_users. - Capturing or deleting a snapshot, and dotted-line managers:
manage_org_chart. - Changing a reporting line: both
manage_org_chartandmanage_users, because it changes the person’s manager on their user record.
Snapshots are served under /user-management/org-snapshots: list, read one and GET /diff?from=&to= need view_org_chart; POST / and DELETE /:id need manage_org_chart. The diff answers 400 without both ids and 404 for an unknown snapshot. Dotted-line managers are saved with PUT /user-management/users/:id/dotted-reports; an eleventh for one person answers 400. All of these rows are in the API reference.
